 Senate Bill 227117 (SB) proposes an amendment to the NM Constitution Article 12, Section 13 to provide for nominating committees for appointed and reappointed members of boards of regents of state educational institutions except student members.

 

 SB    proposes an amendment to the NM Constitution Article 12, Section 13 that requires the legislature to establish nominating committees to provide the governor with lists of nominees for nonstudent appointments to the board of regents of each state educational institution enumerated in NM Constitution Article 12, Section 11.  It directs the legislature to provide by law the appointment, terms, powers and duties of the nominating committees with the limitation that no more than fifty percent will be members of the same political party.  
It updates provisions of that article and section.

If passed, SB            will be submitted to the people of the state who will approve or reject this proposed amendment at the next general election or at any special election prior to that date that may be called for that purpose. 

 The governor nominates members of the board of regents of each state educational institution enumerated in NM Constitution Article 12, Section 11.
