Summary:
 Senate Bill 496 (SB 496) requires the Legislative Finance Committee to identify agencies that have failed to meet performance standards and to recommend reductions in the
budgets of those agencies 

 
Legislation Overview:
 Senate Bill 496 (SB 496) expands the additional duties of the Legislative Finance Committee (LFC) in Section 2-5-4 NMSA 1978 to include identifying agencies that have
failed to meet performance standards developed pursuant to the Accountability in Government Act and specified in Section 4 of the General Appropriation Act of the previous year when preparing its annual budget recommendations. SB 496 requires the LFC to recommend budget reductions for those agencies. It makes a few grammatical/technical changes to this section. 

 
Current Law:
  Section 2-5-4 NMSA 1978 requires the LFC annually to review budgets and appropriations requests and the operation and management of selected state agencies, departments and institutions, and to make recommendations with respect to these budgets and appropriations requests no later than the first week of any regular legislative session
